There is a funny story about Sylvia and Eddie. Ina and Sylvia were very close, even though Sylvia was almost 12 years older than Ina. Ina had lived with Sylvia from the age of 15 until she married Eddie. Eddie and Sylvia were always getting into petty arguments, and Eddie often teased Sylvia. After Eddie and Ina moved to San Francisco, Sylvia, who was a fantastic cook, invited Eddie and Ina for dinner. Eddie had never seen an artichoke or anything closely related to it, and Sylvia was serving them for dinner. Eddie asked what it was, and Sylvia explained. Eddie sat silent for a minute. He then stood up and told Sylvia that no one was going to make an idiot out of him. Sylvia then got offended that Eddie was insulting her cooking. It turns out he was convinced that Sylvia and Ina had gotten together to play a trick on him. He thought they were trying to get him to eat a table decoration.
Sylvia brought that incident up a couple of times through the years, and said it was such a shame that Eddie wasn't a nice guy like his brother, Vic.
